A quick homemade teriyaki sauce with soy sauce, fresh orange juice, honey, ginger, garlic and toasted sesame seeds. It works equally well as a flavorful sauce or as a marinade for chicken, shrimp or beef.
Yield: About 1½ cups
Prep Time: About 10 minutes
Chill Time: 1 hour
Ingredients:
- ½ cup soy sauce
- 2 teaspoons dark sesame oil
- Juice of 2 oranges
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons fresh ginger, peeled and minced
- ½ cup scallions, chopped
- 2 teaspoons garlic, minced
- 2 teaspoons sesame seeds, toasted
Instructions:
- Combine the soy sauce, sesame oil, orange juice and honey in a large bowl.
- Add the ginger, scallions, garlic and toasted sesame seeds.
- Whisk everything together until well combined.
- Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour to allow the flavors to blend.
- Use as a sauce or as a marinade for chicken, shrimp or beef.
Tip: If using the teriyaki sauce as a marinade for raw meat or poultry, discard the used marinade afterward rather than serving it as a sauce unless it is thoroughly boiled first.
